I wasn't sure anyone would be interested.
That's the honest truth of it. When I first put Waves Walks out there, the idea of strangers meeting on a walk, no agenda, no structure, just shared understanding.. I didn't know if it would land.
It landed.
So I wanted to write this down. Not just to share the news, but because moments like this deserve to be remembered properly.
What Waves Walks actually are.
Free, informal outdoor meetups hosted by The Waves Movement. A walk somewhere beautiful. A cuppa after. Real conversation or comfortable silence, whatever you need on the day. No one asking you how you're coping. No pressure to perform okayness. Just people who understand what it is to carry something, getting outside together.
That's it. That's all it needs to be.
The two locations.
We're running walks from two starting points - Antrim Castle Gardens and Duncrue Road in Belfast.
Antrim Castle Gardens has always felt like somewhere you could think clearly. There's something about being near water and green space that does something grief quietly can't, it gives you somewhere to put your eyes when words run out.
The Belfast walk starts down at the docks on Duncrue Road and follows the Greenway all the way through to Jordanstown. With views of the sea, it's the kind of route that opens something up in you without you even realising it's happened.
Two places. One movement. And plenty of room for more.
Why free. Always.
Waves Walks will never cost anything to attend. Grief is already expensive - in energy, in time, in the parts of yourself you give to simply getting through. The last thing this community needs is a price tag on belonging.
If you want to come.
Keep an eye on our social pages - @thewavesmovement on Instagram and TikTok for upcoming dates. We also have dedicated Facebook groups for both the Antrim and Belfast walks, a space for people to chat, connect, ask questions, or simply know they're not alone between walks. I'll be sharing all updates and dates in there too. Or if you'd rather reach out privately, you're always welcome to message us or email hello@thewavesmovement.com
You don't have to be in a certain place with your grief. You just have to show up.
